ITE Students Win HSIS Safety Paper Contest
Jason C. Anderson and Shangjia Dong take 1st place in this year’s ITE HSIS safety paper contest. The ITE sponsored contest required students to request HSIS crash data, merge the data, conduct an analysis, and write a high-quality paper. Jason and Shangjia’s winning paper utilized a “heterogeneity” method to analyze heavy vehicle injury severity by time-of-week (weekday and weekend crashes). They conducted a “model separation” test to confirm that disaggregating the data was permitted and, therefore, establishing that heavy vehicle injury severity needs to be studied separately. Jason and Shangjia will be receiving a 1st place plaque and have their paper published in the Fall 2018 edition of the ITE Journal. ITE
